Roger Woloshyn is starman.
“I was tagged with the name when I was working at the planetarium at the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature (now the Manitoba Museum). I often performed a live show for kindergarten – Grade 1 students called Stories from the Sky. After each show, there was a question period. The students asked the questions and I was required to answer. I had one young would-be astronomer ask, “Are you the star man?” I had to admit that I was, and the name has stuck to this day.I began my career in astronomy with an introductory course in astronomy at the University of Manitoba. A new planetarium had just opened on campus. Demonstrators were needed to operate the planetarium and to lecture; that’s where I began. After graduating with a B.Sc. and a B.Ed. , I moved to the newly constructed planetarium in downtown Winnipeg where I worked for 20 years. In 1986, I came to Churchill to give my first courses in northern lights and observational astronomy. I fell in love with the place and I have been doing the courses ever since”
