About Binoculars

Binoculars are NOT useful in viewing auroras, comets, meteors, meteor showers or stars (except to confirm colour). They are useful in seeing some of the more interesting deep sky objects we will be seeking under Churchill skies. Any binoculars are better than no binoculars at all. Galileo would have loved to look through any common everyday binocular. If you have a choice, choose the ones with the fattest big end (objective lenses) i.e. the end you point at what you want to see, not the one you look through (eyepieces).

It is a good idea to bring your own since we will be learning how to use them properly so you may do your observations with your own binoculars when you get home. Whatever you have, bring it - even opera glasses!
